Dave Turek from IBM gave this talk at the Swiss HPC Conference. “There is a shift underway where HPC is beginning to be addressed with novel techniques and technologies including cognitive and analytic approaches to HPC problems and the arrival of the first quantum systems. This talk will showcase how IBM is merging cognitive, analytics, and quantum with classic simulation and modeling to create a new path for computational science.”

Video: Powering the Road to National HPC Leadership

Jack Wells from ORNL gave this talk at the 2018 OpenPOWER Summit. “The Summit supercomputer coming to Oak Ridge is the next leap in leadership-class computing systems for open science. Summit will have a hybrid architecture, and each node will contain multiple IBM POWER9 CPUs and NVIDIA Volta GPUs all connected together with NVIDIA’s high-speed NVLink. Each node will have over half a terabyte of coherent memory (high bandwidth memory + DDR4) addressable by all CPUs and GPUs plus 800GB of non-volatile RAM that can be used as a burst buffer or as extended memory.”

Radio Free HPC Looks at the European Processor Initiative

In this podcast, the Radio Free HPC team looks at the European Processor Initiative, an effort to design a build an exascale computer based around European technology. “According to an interview in Primeur Magazine with EPI project coordinator Philippe Notton from Atos, the project involves not only a processor, but an accelerator as well. Will it be based on ARM, OpenPOWER, or something else like RISC-V? We will have to wait and see.”

Designing HPC, Deep Learning, and Cloud Middleware for Exascale Systems

DK Panda from Ohio State University gave this talk at the Stanford HPC Conference. “This talk will focus on challenges in designing HPC, Deep Learning, and HPC Cloud middleware for Exascale systems with millions of processors and accelerators. For the HPC domain, we will discuss the challenges in designing runtime environments for MPI+X (PGAS-OpenSHMEM/UPC/CAF/UPC++, OpenMP and Cuda) programming models by taking into account support for multi-core systems (KNL and OpenPower), high networks, GPGPUs (including GPUDirect RDMA) and energy awareness.”

Agenda Posted: OpenPOWER 2018 Summit in Las Vegas

The OpenPOWER Summit has posted its speaker agenda. Held in conjunction with IBM Think 2018, the event takes place March 19 in Las Vegas. “The OpenPOWER Foundation is an open technical community based on the POWER architecture, enabling collaborative development and opportunity for member differentiation and industry growth. The goal of the OpenPOWER Foundation is to create an open ecosystem, using the POWER Architecture to share expertise, investment, and server-class intellectual property to serve the evolving needs of customers and industry.”

Red Hat steps up with Multi-Architecture Solutions for HPC

A Closer Look at the D.A.V.I.D.E. Supercomputer at CINECA in Italy

In this video, researchers from CINECA in Italy describe how their new D.A.V.I.D.E. supercomputer powers science and engineering. “Developed by E4 Engineering, D.A.V.I.D.E. (Development for an Added Value Infrastructure Designed in Europe) is an Energy Aware Petaflops Class High Performance Cluster based on Power Architecture and coupled with NVIDIA Tesla Pascal GPUs with NVLink.”

IBM Readies Power9 Coral Supercomputers at SC17

In this video from SC17, Ken King describes how new Power9 compute nodes will power the next generation of the world’s most powerful Coral supercomputers at ORNL and LLNL. “We’re pleased to announce that we are delivering on our project, with our next-generation IBM Power Systems with NVIDIA Volta GPUs being deployed at Oak Ridge and Lawrence Livermore National Labs.”

E4 Computer Engineering Demonstrates OpenPOWER Servers at ISC 2017
