Jülich Supercomputing Centre Announces Quantum Computing Research Partnership with Google

Today the Jülich Supercomputing Centre announced it is partnering with Google in the field of quantum computing research. The partnership will include joint research and expert trainings in the fields of quantum technologies and quantum algorithms and the mutual use of quantum hardware. “The German research center will operate and make publicly accessible a European quantum computer with 50 to 100 superconducting qubits, to be developed within the EU’s Quantum Flagship Program, a large-scale initiative in the field of quantum technologies funded at the 1 billion € level on a 10 years timescale.”

Rigetti Computing Named Technology Pioneer by World Economic Forum

Today Rigetti Computing announced that the company has been named as one of the World Economic Forum’s “Technology Pioneers”. Rigetti Computing was founded in 2013 by Chad Rigetti, and has made its quantum computers available over the cloud since 2017. “Rigetti and its fellow pioneers are leaders in using novel technologies to transform their industries. We see great potential for these next generation companies to shape solutions to global challenges and improve society for years to come.”

D-Wave Releases of D-Wave Hybrid Workflow Platform to Open Source

Today D-Wave Systems announced the general availability of D-Wave Hybrid, a simple open-source hybrid workflow platform for building and running quantum-classical hybrid applications. “Most quantum computing projects we’ve worked on in the past have relied on a classical hybrid quantum-classical approach. The release of D-Wave Hybrid has allowed us to prototype these hybrid approaches much faster than before, and gives us the algorithmic control required to customize different parts to suit our needs.”

New Paper: Practical Annealing-Based Quantum Computing

Researchers at D-Wave Systems have published a new paper on Practical Annealing-Based Quantum Computing. “According to the paper, quantum annealing is the viable way forward to connect quantum hardware to real-world applications. Providing annealing-based QPUs as part of a complete computing platform within a declarative paradigm has made this nascent technology accessible for many users who, in turn, are helping to drive this approach forward.”

Practical Annealing-Based Quantum Computing

This paper provides an overview of quantum computers based on the annealing paradigm and manufactured by D-Wave is given. An introductory survey of this approach to quantum computing (QC), together with a snapshot of what is known about performance, is presented. Evidence-based predictions about developments in this region of the QC space are presented.

Video: The First Catalan Quantum Computer

Pol Forn from the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre gave this talk at the BSC Annual Meeting. “QUANTIC is a joint venture between the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and the University of Barcelona. The research directions are focused on performing quantum computation in a laboratory of superconducting quantum circuits and studying new applications for quantum processors.”

Atos Democratizes Quantum Programming with myQLM

Today Atos announced myQLM, free quantum programming tools designed to democratize access to quantum simulation and encourage innovation in quantum computing. “With myQLM, we are taking a new step forward in the field of quantum computing. Offering free access to quantum programming and testing to researchers, students and developers will democratize the use of quantum simulation and help expand the overall reach of quantum computing, a technology which will shape the future of computing for years to come” said Thierry Breton, Atos Chairman & CEO.

Lower-Noise Processor comes to Leap Quantum Cloud Service

Today D-Wave Systems announced the immediate availability of a lower-noise D-Wave 2000Q processor in the Leap quantum cloud service. Reflecting years of customer feedback, the lower-noise processor demonstrates improved performance, precision, and impact on quantum effects by reducing environmental noise in quantum annealing systems.”Lower noise is an important ongoing area of focus for D-Wave as we build our next-generation platform.”

Airbus: Innovating the Future of Flight with HPC
