SAGE Project Looks to Percipient Storage for Exascale

“The SAGE project, which incorporates research and innovation in hardware and enabling software, will significantly improve the performance of data I/O and enable computation and analysis to be performed more locally to data wherever it resides in the architecture, drastically minimizing data movements between compute and data storage infrastructures. With a seamless view of data throughout the platform, incorporating multiple tiers of storage from memory to disk to long-term archive, it will enable API’s and programming models to easily use such a platform to efficiently utilize the most appropriate data analytics techniques suited to the problem space.”

Increasing the Efficiency of Storage Systems

Have you ever wondered why your HPC installation is not performing as you had envisioned ? You ran small simulations. You spec’d out the CPU speed, the network speed and the disk drive speed. You optimized your application and are taking advantage of new architectures. But now as you scale the installation, you realize that the storage system is not performing as expected. Why ? You bought the latest disk drives and expect even better than linear performance from the last time you purchased a storage system. Read how you can get increased efficiency of your storage system.

Security at Big Data and HPC Scale

This paper is the first to explore a recent breakthrough with the introduction of the High Performance Computing (HPC) industry’s first Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) 503 (DCID 6/3 PL4) certified compliant and secure scale-out parallel file system solution, Seagate ClusterStorTM Secure Data Appliance, which is designed to address government and business enterprise need for collaborative and secure information sharing within a Multi-Level Security (MLS) framework at Big Data and HPC Scale.

Lustre File System High Performance Guide

Today, Lustre File System is based entirely on Linux and is using kernel- based server modules to deliver the expected performance. Lustre can support many types of clients and runs on almost any modern hardware. Scalability is one of the most important features of Lustre File System and can be used to create a single namespace of what appears to be almost limitless capacity.

Seagate Unveils 60 Terabyte SSD

Today Seagate announced two new flash innovations that extend the limits of storage computing performance in enterprise data centers to unprecedented levels. The new products include a 60 terabyte SAS solid-state-drive — the largest SSD ever demonstrated — and the 8TB Nytro XP7200 NVMe SSD. These two new products represent the high performance end of Seagate’s Enterprise portfolio – a complete ecosystem of HDD, SSD and storage system products designed to help customers manage the deluge of data they face and move the right data where it’s needed fast to meet rapidly evolving business priorities and market demands.

Seagate Rolls Out Energy-Efficient SATA SSD For Enterprise Cloud

Today Seagate announced the Nytro XF1230 SATA SSD, an energy-efficient drive specifically designed to meet the performance and reliability requirements of today’s cloud data centers. “SSDs in enterprise data centers provide extremely fast data access in a small footprint, while consuming very little energy. No SSD in its class does this better than Seagate’s latest addition to the Nytro product line,” said Brett Pemble, Seagate’s general manager and vice president of SSD products. “This is a critical addition to our growing SSD portfolio and an answer to what our enterprise customers have been asking for: a highly reliable, very low-latency SATA SSD that’s also energy efficient. It also means more people get more value from more data for lower cost.”
