Announcing the SIGHPC/Intel Computational and Data Science Fellowship Winners

Today SIGHPC announced the 12 recipients of the ACM SIGHPC/Intel Computational and Data Science Fellowships for 2017. The fellowship is funded by Intel, and is presented each year at the annual SC conference. It was established to increase the diversity of students pursuing graduate degrees in data science and computational science, including women as well as students from racial/ethnic backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in the computing field. The fellowship provides $15,000 annually for study anywhere in the world.

Fernanda Foertter Elected SIG HPC Education Vice Chair

Today the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on High Performance Computing (SIGHPC) announced that Fernanda Foertter from ORNL is the new Vice Chair of the organization’s Education Committee. In this position, Foertter will support the goals of SIGHPC Education to promote increased knowledge and greater interest in the educational and scientific aspects of HPC. “Organizations such as SIGHPC broadens our periphery of other individuals within the HPC field. By connecting with my peers, I can make better decisions about what kinds of HPC training are needed and desired both within and outside of our own lab,” Foertter said.

Announcing the Emerging Woman Leader in Technical Computing Award

The new ACM SIGHPC Emerging Woman Leader in Technical Computing award will be presented every two years, with the first presentation in November during SC17. “The obvious benefit is the recognition and exposure that can come from receiving an award like this one. But, just as important, over time the recipients of this award will serve as models of success that can encourage others as they start their own careers.”

The PASC17 Conference has issued its Call for Submissions. Co-sponsored by ACM and SIGHPC, the event will take place June 26-28, 2017 in Lugano, Switzerland. “The PASC Conference is an interdisciplinary event in high performance computing that brings together domain science, applied mathematics and computer science – where computer science is focused on enabling the realization of scientific computation.”

PASC16 Announces Keynote Speakers

Today PASC16 announced a lineup of world-class keynote speakers for its third annual conference. The event will feature keynotes from academic and industry leaders with a special emphasis on high-performance computing, and simulation and data sciences. Building on the successful format of the last two years’ conferences, PASC16 will offer an even broader and deeper selection of technical sessions, paper tracks, information stands, and presentations from industry and academia.
