DDN Unveils New Branding, Expands Market Positioning into the Enterprise – ‘Intelligent Infrastructure’

The long march of HPC-class technologies into high end enterprise IT took another step forward today with the unveiling by HPC storage stalwart DataDirect Networks of new corporate branding and  market positioning focused on the broader enterprise market.

Calling itself a “premier provider of AI and data management software and hardware solutions enabling intelligent infrastructure,” privately held DDN’s announcement caps a series of acquisitions in recent years to address standard IT workloads, such as virtualization, databases and file sharing, in support of its expanded market mission. In 2019, DDN purchased the IntelliFlash business from Western Digital Corp. (NASDAQ: WDC), as well as Nexenta, maker of software defined storage (SDS) for 5G and IoT.

DDN Completes Acquisition of Nexenta

Today DDN announced the successful completion of the acquisition of Nexenta, the market leader in Software Defined Storage for 5G and Internet of Things (IoT), creating the Nexenta by DDN division. “The acquisition brings three technology powerhouses together; DDN Storage, Tintri by DDN and now Nexenta by DDN, for the benefit of its customers’ AI and multi-cloud data strategies. DDN now holds a suite of products, solutions, and services that enable AI and multi-cloud to deliver the greatest impact to the emerging IoT markets.”

DDN Acquires Tintri for High-Speed Virtualization

Today DDN announced that it has completed the acquisition of Tintri for $60 million. “Tintri offers the best analytics with predictive, efficient and intuitive insight for virtualized environments and databases. Combining these capabilities with DDN’s market-winning performance, efficiency and integration at scale for AI, technical computing and the enterprise is incredibly enabling for customers.”

DDN Building New Flash Enterprise Virtualization and Analytics Division

Today DDN announced it is rapidly hiring engineers, support and sales team members for its newly-created Server Virtualization, Analytics, VDI, Container and DevOps division. The new division will focus on helping enterprises get the most value out of their flash, virtualized and containerized hybrid cloud environments. The company is targeting to complete this round of hiring by the end of September. “We are well on our way to achieving a critical team size of 100 people for our development, support and delivery of leading flash-based enterprise virtualization, analytics, and containerized storage solutions,” said Alex Bouzari, DDN CEO and co-founder.
