NVIDIA GPUs Power HPC & AI Workloads in Cloud with Univa

Duncan Poole from NVIDIA gave this talk at the Univa Breakfast Briefing at ISC 2018. “The rise of AI workloads on GPU-enabled systems like RAIDEN in Japan introduces a corresponding and compelling demand for Univa Grid Engine. Aside from being the de facto standard for enterprise-class deployments of shared computational infrastructures for managed HPC and AI workloads, Univa Grid Engine delivers industry-leading integrations with NVIDIA GPUs and Docker containers.”

Univa: Optimizing On-Premise Clusters and Migration to the Cloud

In this video from ISC 2018, Rob Lalonde describes how Univa products optimize on-premise clusters and migration to the Cloud. “Univa is the leading independent provider of software-defined computing infrastructure and workload orchestration solutions. Univa’s intelligent cluster management software increases efficiency while accelerating enterprise migration to hybrid clouds. We help hundreds of companies to manage thousands of applications and run billions of tasks every day.”

Univa Deploys Million-core Grid Engine Cluster on AWS

To demonstrate the unique ability to run very large enterprise HPC clusters and workloads, Univa leveraged AWS to deploy 1,015,022 cores in a single Univa Grid Engine cluster to showcase the advantages of running large-scale electronic design automation (EDA) workloads in the cloud. The cluster was built in approximately 2.5 hours using Navops Launch automation and comprised more than 55,000 AWS instances in 3 availability zones, 16 different instance types and leveraged AWS Spot Fleet technology to maximize the rate at which Amazon EC2 hosts were launched while enabling capacity and costs to be managed according to policy.

Radio Free HPC Previews ISC Student Cluster Competition & Ancillary Events

In this podcast, the Radio Free HPC team previews the ISC 2018 Student Cluster Competition. “Now in its seventh year, the Student Cluster Competition enables international STEM teams to take part in a real-time contest focused on advancing STEM disciplines and HPC skills development at ISC 2018 from June 25-27.”

Univa to host Breakfast Briefing on HPC in the Cloud at ISC 2018

Univa will host a Breakfast Briefing on HPC in the Cloud at ISC 2018. “You are invited to attend this briefing on HPC in the Cloud at ISC 2018. A panel of product executives from Amazon Web Services and Nvidia will join Univa to share real-world use cases and discuss best practices for accelerating HPC cloud migration. Please join us and see how to increase the efficiency of on-premise data centers, and address peak needs with hybrid cloud bursting.”

Univa Navops Launch powers Cloudbursting for Mellanox Hybrid Cloud

Today Univa announced that Mellanox has selected Univa’s Navops Launch to extend its on-premise EDA cluster to the cloud, providing Mellanox with cost-effective, on-demand capacity. “Mellanox Technologies provides high-performance solutions to a range of customers looking to innovate with intelligent, interconnected solutions for servers, storage and hyper-converged infrastructure,” said Doron Sayag, IT enterprise computing services senior manager at Mellanox Technologies. “Integrating an enterprise-grade cluster management tool like Navops Launch into our own on-premise data center allowed us to better address peak performance needs with seamless bursting of our HPC cluster to the cloud during tape-outs. By operating more efficiently, we get to provide our customers with exceptional products for years to come.”

Univa partners with UberCloud

Today Univa announced a new global partnership and reseller agreement with UberCloud. Under terms of the agreement, UberCloud, a leading HPC cloud provider, will resell Univa Grid Engine and related Univa products to UberCloud’s growing community of HPC customers. “By deploying packaged HPC applications in containers, and managing them with Univa Grid Engine, users become productive immediately. They can focus on their work rather than spending time troubleshooting complicated HPC software stacks.”

Univa Open Sources Project Tortuga for moving HPC Workloads to the Cloud

Today Univa announced the contribution of its Navops Launch product to the open source community as Project Tortuga under an Apache 2.0 license. The free and open code is designed to help proliferate the transition of enterprise HPC workloads to the cloud. “Having access to more software that applies to a broad set of applications like high performance computing is key to making the transition to the cloud successful,” said William Fellows, Co-Founder and VP of Research, 451 Research. “Univa’s contribution of Navops Launch to the open source community will help with this process, and hopefully be an opportunity for cloud providers to contribute and use Tortuga as the on-ramp for HPC workloads.”

OCF deploys first IBM POWER9 systems in UK Academia

Queen Mary University of London and Newcastle University are the first UK academic institutions to install POWER9 systems. Deployed by OCF, both Universities have already integrated the machines into their existing HPC infrastructures. “Modern AI, HPC and Analytics workloads are driving an ever-growing set of data intensive challenges,” comments Julian Fielden, Managing Director of OCF. “These challenges can only be met with accelerated infrastructure, such as IBM’s POWER9. In such a highly competitive field as academic research, providing superior HPC services to compute large quantities of data quickly, can help to attract world-class researchers, as well as grants and funding.”

Univa Grid Engine adds UberCloud Parallel MPI to Docker Containers

Today Univa announced the integration of UberCloud parallel application containers with Univa Grid Engine. In May of last year, Univa, a leading innovator of workload management products, announced the availability of Docker software container support with its Grid Engine 8.4.0 product, enabling enterprises to automatically dispatch and run jobs in Docker containers, from a user specified Docker image, on a Univa Grid Engine cluster.
