Kubernetes Meets HPC

“While the notion of packaging a workload into a Docker container, publishing it to a registry, and submitting a YAML description of the workload is second nature to users of Kubernetes, this is foreign to most HPC users. An analyst running models in R, MATLAB or Stata simply wants to submit their simulation quickly, monitor their execution, and get a result as quickly as possible.”

Univa Open Sources Universal Resource Broker for Kubernetes

Today Univa announced the open source availability of the Universal Resource Broker (URB) adapter for Kubernetes. This new URB adapter will be of interest for organizations running Apache Mesos frameworks that are looking to deploy Kubernetes and Mesos workloads on a common infrastructure. Your Workload Manager is Your Latest X Factor

Enterprise customers consistently demand improved performance from every component in their HPC infrastructure, including their workload manager. Ian Lumb, Solutions Architect at Univa Corp., speaks on the importance of an innovative workload manager to overall success.

New Univa Grid Engine Release Doubles Performance over Previous Versions

“Grid Engine 8.5’s significant performance improvement for submitting jobs and reduced scheduling times will have a profound impact to our customers’ bottom line as they can now get more work done in the same amount of time. By reducing the wait time for end-users, our customers can save significant costs. Managing the purchase of more servers and getting higher throughput means deadlines can be met with confidence and on budget. Our goal was to increase the value Univa provides over previous versions of Grid Engine, including the popular open source version 6.2U5,” said Bill Bryce, Vice President of Products at Univa.
