The Infinite Memory Engine – Unlocking the Potential of NVMe

In this video from DDN booth at SC18, John Bent from DDN presents: IME – Unlocking the Potential of NVMe. “DDN’s Infinite Memory Engine (IME) is a scale-out, software-defined, flash storage platform that streamlines the data path for application I/O. IME interfaces directly to applications and secures I/O via a data path that eliminates file system bottlenecks. With IME, architects can realize true flash-cache economics with a storage architecture that separates capacity from performance.”

Bob Hood from InuTeq gave this talk at the HPC User Forum. “NASA’s High-End Computing Capability Project is periodically asked if it could be more cost effective through the use of commercial cloud resources. To answer the question, HECC’s Application Performance and Productivity team undertook a performance and cost evaluation comparing three domains: two commercial cloud providers, Amazon and Penguin, and HECC’s in-house resources—the Pleiades and Electra systems.”

The Use of HPC to Model the California Wildfires

Ilkay Altintas from the San Diego Supercomputer Center gave this talk at the HPC User Forum. “WIFIRE is an integrated system for wildfire analysis, with specific regard to changing urban dynamics and climate. The system integrates networked observations such as heterogeneous satellite data and real-time remote sensor data, with computational techniques in signal processing, visualization, modeling, and data assimilation to provide a scalable method to monitor such phenomena as weather patterns that can help predict a wildfire’s rate of spread.”

Visualizing the results of a simulation can give new insight into complex scientific problems. Interactive viewing of entire datasets can lead to earlier understanding of the challenge at hand and can enhance the understanding of complex phenomena. Consumer GPUs Power 2 Petaflop Deep Learning Cluster at ASTRON

Today ClusterVision announced the successful deployment of a new high performance computing GPU cluster system for the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy (ASTRON). “By utilizing the deep learning capabilities of the GPU cluster, the telescopes will be able to detect pulsar flashes with much greater accuracy through self-learning. In the past, ASTRON scientists had to manually detect and input pulsar patterns. With deep learning, ARTS does it for them.”

Jack Dongarra from the University of Tennessee gave this talk at SC17. “In this talk we will look at the current state of high performance computing and look to the future toward exascale. In addition, we will examine some issues that can help in reducing the power consumption for linear algebra computations.”
