Meet 6 Trailblazing Women in HPC

Women are severely underrepresented in the field of HPC. While they comprise about 51 percent of the general population, women account for only about 17 percent of the HPC workforce1. Those numbers are slowly improving, thanks to the contributions of numerous female engineers, scientists and researchers. In recognition of March as International Women’s History Month, we’re profiling six talented women doing trailblazing work that should inspire others to enter this exciting field.

Dell Names New HPC Leadership Team

Dell Technologies has announced its new HPC and AI leadership, a management group  likely to be unfamiliar to many in the HPC community. But this may say something about the evolution of HPC as well as Dell’s vision of HPC’s broadening role across IT. Video: Are women underrepresented in the HPC community?

Athina Frantzana from the University of Edinburgh gave this talk at the EuroPython Conference. “This study is the first attempt to understand the current gender demographics of the HPC community, and identify potential reasons and ways to tackle the gender imbalance. By listening to the people who constitute the community, the study offers a guideline on what the HPC community should focus on in order to become more attractive, accessible and useful to everyone.”

Data Vortex hosts Texas Women in HPC Summer Mixer

Last week, Data Vortex Technologies hosted the Texas Women in HPC (TXWHPC) PechaKucha Summer Mixer at their Austin headquarters. Rice Oil & Gas Conference in March to look for ways to meet HPC Demand

Rice University’s Ken Kennedy Institute will host the 12th annual Rice Oil and Gas High Performance Computing Conference (OGHPC) in Houston, Texas on March 4 – 6, 2019. “With the end of Moore’s law, challenges are mounting around a rapidly changing technology landscape,” said Jan E.
