NREL researchers are testing immersive liquid cooling technologies that could potentially bring huge energy savings to HPC datacenters. With worldwide datacenters consuming an estimated 70 billion kWh per year, a disruptive energy-saving solution is needed, and a liquid-submerged server (LSS) technology from LiquidCool Solutions might be the answer.
Because of the technology’s potential, the IN2 Program selected LCS to participate in the program to further develop and accelerate commercialization of its cooling technology. The IN2 Program, funded by the Wells Fargo Foundation and co-administered by NREL on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is a $30-million program supporting innovative technologies and innovators.
