Friedrich-Alexander-Universität: HPC Boosted with xiRAID and Lustre

Sept. 24, 2024 — Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), a research university in Germany, announced it has enhanced its high-performance computing capabilities through an implementation of xiRAID and Lustre technologies. This upgrade, facilitated by Xinnor and MEGWARE, has resulted in performance gains for the GPU cluster “Alex,” a research resource for artificial intelligence, machine learning, atomistic simulations […]

Inspur Information and MEGWARE Build GPU Cluster for Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg

Stuttgart, Germany — Inspur information, an IT infrastructure solutions provider, and MEGWARE, a high-performance computing (HPC) solutions provider in Europe, combined efforts for the scientific research capabilities of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) through its Erlangen National Center for High-Performance Computing (NHR@FAU). The GPU cluster, powered by Inspur GPU servers, is operational and has  exceeded its […]

Jülich installs first Cluster Module for DEEP-EST Exascale Project

Researchers at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre have installed the first-ever Cluster Module from MEGWARE as part of the European DEEP-EST project for Exascale computing. The Cluster Module consist of a single rack with 50 Intel Xeon Scalable Processor-based dual-socket nodes with a Mellanox EDR-InfiniBand 100Gbps high-performance cluster fabric. “The DEEP-EST prototype will demonstrate that a Modular Supercomputer is much more flexible than a monolithic one, and matches very diverse application profiles in a cost-effective way.”

Energy-efficient CoolMUC-3 Cluster comes to LRZ in Germany

An new energy-efficient supercomputer called CoolMUC-3 has been deployed at LRZ in Germany. Developed by MEGWARE, the HPC cluster features Intel’s many-core architecture and warm-water cooled Omni-Path switches. “In the long run, we want to get rid of inefficient air-cooling completely.”

Megware to Install CooLMUC 3 Supercomputer at LRZ in Germany

“The new CooLMUC 3 system outperforms its predecessors in a number of respects, including its key feature of cooling in thermally insulated racks all compute and login nodes, power supply units, and Omni-Path switches directly with hot water, a combination the likes of which has never been seen before,” said Axel Auweter, Head of HPC Development at MEGWARE. “Even at a cooling water temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and a room temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, a maximum of just 3% waste heat is produced in the ambient air.”

Video: A Look at the Mogon II HPC Cluster at Johannes Gutenberg University

In this video, Prof. Dr.-Ing. André Brinkmann from the JGU datacenter describes the Mogon II cluster, a 580 Teraflop system currently ranked #265 on the TOP500. “Built by MEGWARE in Germany, the Mogon II system consists of 814 individual nodes each equipped with 2 Intel 2630v4 CPUs and connected via OmniPath 50Gbits (fat-tree). Each CPU has 10 cores, giving a total of 16280 cores.”

MEGWARE Steps Up as BeeGFS Platinum Partner

“MEGWARE is building high quality BeeGFS turn-key solutions already since the first days of its release back in 2009. Over the years, we have seen an outstanding level of customer satisfaction and systems that regularly exceeded customer expectations in throughput, manageability and technical support. Thus, we are proud to have MEGWARE as the world’s first BeeGFS Platinum partner.“ says Sven Breuner, CEO of ThinkParQ, the company behind BeeGFS.

Video: Megware Direct Liquid Cooling at ISC 2016

In this video from ISC 2016, Thomas Blum from Germany’s Megware describes the company’s innovative hot water cooling system. The Slide SX-LC system is cooled by 50 degree celsius water on the input side with an output water temperature of 80 degrees celsius.

Interview: MEGWARE Gears up for ISC High Performance

MEGWARE in Germany celebrated its 25th anniversary in February. With the company in the midst of a big cluster deployment at CERN, we caught up Jörg Heydemüller from MEGWARE to learn what they have in store for the upcoming ISC High Performance conference in July.
