Voltaire today announced its latest addition to their 40Gbps switch line.  The new version includes special sauce with built-in low latency Ethernet bridging technology.  The Grid Director 4036E features 34 40Gbps [QDR] Infiniband ports and 1 or 2 10Gbps Ethernet ports.  Its designed to be a self-contained solution in 1U of rackspace.

The Grid Director 4036E takes the pain out of bridging from InfiniBand to Ethernet which is a much-needed capability in many high-performance, enterprise IT environments,” said Asaf Somekh, vice president of marketing, Voltaire.  “This is a game-changing new solution in terms of latency reduction for high frequency trading, as well as a compelling high-performance, low cost storage access and scale-out database solution.”

Bridging different network protocols requires more than just converting and moving data packets,” Somekh continued. “Voltaire’s 4th generation gateway silicon efficiently maps advanced features, such as accelerated multicast traffic, creating a truly seamless user experience while using standard protocols.”
