E4 to Showcase GPU-Accelerated OpenPOWER Servers at ISC 2016

logo-E4Today Italy’s E4 Computer Engineering announced plans to showcase of new NVIDIA GPU-accelerated OpenPOWER servers at ISC 2016 in Frankfurt.

For this edition of ISC16, we wanted to reinforce the message that E4 is a company that actively engages and pursues new technologies’ paths with the aim to deliver leading-edge solutions for a number of demanding environments,” said Piero Altoè, Marketing and BDM Manager, E4 Computer Engineering. “Our priority is to collaborate with organizations such as OpenPOWER Foundation and true visionaries like NVIDIA in order to obtain powerful, scalable and affordable solutions for a number of complex applications and contribute to the development of technologies that have a huge impact on many aspects of our lives.”

E4’s mission to exploit innovation by implementing and integrating cutting-edge solutions with the best performance for every high-end computing and storage requirement is very much its focus for this year’s edition of ISC, as the company chose to showcase a number of systems based on the two most advanced technologies available at the moment: accelerated POWER8 and ARM servers.

“As the IT industry continues to shift, it is imperative that we work collaboratively to innovate for the workloads of tomorrow,” said Calista Redmond, President, OpenPOWER Foundation. “Leveraging the POWER processor with tightly integrated acceleration technology, OpenPOWER Foundation member E4 Computer Engineering has built a high performance server specifically tuned to crunch the massive data sets inherent in scientific and industrial applications.”

With proven experience in low-power computing environments, E4 will introduce some of the newest advancements made in this field with two exhibits, part of the ARKA series, that are bound to generate a lot of curiosity within the scientific community on a constant quest for powerful solutions that can meet low- power consumption requirements.

Also, after becoming member of the OpenPOWER Foundation last November, E4 has been extremely active in developing accelerated solutions that exploit the performance of the POWER processor, which was designed from the ground up for big data.. OP205, the high performing, POWER-based system unveiled at SC15 and equipped with two NVIDIA Tesla K80 GPU accelerators, will be joined by two new additions aimed at both scientific and industrial environments requiring fast and elaborate processing applications. The new OpenPOWER systems on showcase at ISC16 are also powered by the NVIDIA Tesla Accelerated Computing Platform. Both utilize the new NVIDIA Tesla P100 GPU accelerators with the high-bandwidth NVIDIA NVLink interconnect technology to dramatically speed up throughput and maximize application performance.

Tesla P100 accelerators with NVLink enable a new class of servers that can deliver the performance of hundreds of CPU server nodes,” said Roy Kim, group product manager of Accelerated Computing at NVIDIA. “With support for the Tesla Platform and advanced OpenPOWER technology, E4 is delivering innovative, high-powered solutions to tackle the most demanding HPC and artificial intelligence workloads.”
