These days, taking big data further and integrating machine and deep learning means having a competitive edge in the retail industry. Analytics — and their analysis — have always been a cornerstone of retail success. This includes info on customer buying behavior, product trends, pricing optimization and more.

In fact, a study by McKinsey cited in the report found that U.S. retailer supply chain operations who have adopted data and analytics have seen up to a 19% increase in operating margin over the last five years. But this data doesn’t do much good if it’s not put to use.

And now, deep learning techniques are going to push the data boom to the next level and also have the potential to change how retailers buy, stock and sell. According to the report, artificial neural networks are becoming even more efficient, and GPUs are getting more powerful.

Deep learning systems can more accurately predict the item a customer wants, and in turn, could greatly improve efficiency in the online retail environment. What if through deep learning techniques retailers could predict future preferences and stocking needs? Waste would be minimal, and retailers would be only stock what they need.

The new special report explores how AI, machine learning and deep learning are transforming the retail industry in many positive directions including, inventory and supply chain management , analysis of customer buying patterns and traffic patterns, fighting cyberfraud and more.

The report walks the reader through the possibilities for each of the aforementioned areas in retail. And it also explores Dell EMC Machine Learning and Deep Learning Ready Bundles, for those interested in applying deep learning techniques to their own retail operation.

The Dell EMC Ready Bundles combine pre-tested and validated servers, storage, networking and services optimized for machine and deep learning applications.

Any way you look at it, deep learning is shifting the landscape or retail. And to stay competitive, big box brands all the way down to small chains will all have to respond to the movement to stay competitive. That said, there are a variety or resources out there to stay up to speed — some of which are covered in the guide, like the Dell EMC HPC Community or the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute — to make sure you remain on the cutting edge of the retail industry.

This whitepaper explores how AI and machine learning are transforming the retail industry in the following areas:

  • „ Inventory and supply chain management
  • Analysis of customer buying patterns
  • „ Analyzing traffic patterns
  • „ Providing assortment planning
  • „ Performing retail analytics at scale
  • Fighting cyberfraud
