Bridging the Gap between Quantum and Classical Computing

Abstracting away the complexities of using quantum technology is the mission of Quantum Computing Inc. (QCI), a startup in Leesburg, VA. In this interview, Steve Reinhardt, a 20-plus year HPC veteran (Cray and SGI) and now VP/product development at QCI, talks about the challenges of bridging the gap between classical and quantum computing. QCI’s target end user is not the computer scientist but the SME – be it in financial services, life sciences or government and applied research – enabling quantum access to the broader advanced computing market. With “quantum advantage” still in the future, for now the company utilizes quantum techniques built into the company’s recently released Qatalyst software, designed to optimize constrained optimization (traveling salesperson) problems.
