Sun adds Belgian Q-layer to its cloud formation

From Sun today

Sun logoSun Microsystems, Inc…today announced it has acquired Q-layer, a cloud computing company that automates the deployment and management of both public and private clouds. The Q-layer organization, based in Belgium, will become part of Sun’s Cloud Computing business unit which develops and integrates cloud computing technologies, architectures and services.

Recall that in early December Sun announced it was closing Network.com to new users while it figured out what to do next. Q-layer will evidently add technolgy to the portfolio of solutions that Sun is peddling to customers wanting to set up their own cloud infrastructures. Sort of a selling shovels to miners rather than digging for gold approach to the business. This could make money for Sun for a while, but eventually the gold rush ends and you have to start selling something else.
