Today Bright Computing announced that the Institute of Aircraft Design at the University of Stuttgart is using the company’s Bright Computing Manager software in its HPC data center. The university says that Bright’s user-friendly interface was the primary reason for its selection.
Installing, configuring, monitoring and managing a high performance computing cluster is a difficult job if you don’t have the right tools,” says cluster manager Alexander Schön of the technical staff of the Institute for Aircraft Design of the University of Stuttgart. “Bright Cluster Manager is exceptionally user friendly and allows us to do basic management tasks quickly and efficiently.”
The Institute of Aircraft Design in Stuttgart uses its HPC cluster for computer-aided engineering, simulations, and construction calculations. The data center has grown steadily over the years, as has the complexity of the cluster. Previously, the University used Open Source Cluster Application Resources (OSCAR) to manage, install, configure, and monitor the cluster, but found that solution complicated. This complexity made managing the cluster time consuming and costly. The newly adopted Bright Cluster Manager has a very user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) that allows users to handle management and configuration tasks more efficiently.
Many of the high performance computing clusters at universities are managed with Bright Cluster Manager, and ease-of-use plays a major role when customers are looking for a solution,” says Mr. Lee Carter, Director of EMEA at Bright Computing. “Many of the management tasks that would otherwise take up a lot of people’s time, or had to be done by expensive third parties, can easily be done by our customers themselves with Bright.
