OSU Releases MVAPICH2 1.4.1

Dhabaleswar Panda and his MVAPICH team at Ohio State University announced the latest release of MVAPICH2 last night.  What is usually considered an incremental bug fix release, also contains several relevant feature enhancements.  A quick run through new features:

  • MPMD launch capability to mpirun_rsh
  • Portable Hardware Locality (hwloc) support [thanks to suggestions from Dr. Bernd Kallies]
  • Multi-port support for iWARP
  • Enhanced iWARP design for scalability to higher process count
  • Ring based startup support for RDMAoE

As always, there are also a number of relevant bug fixes in this release.  A quick look at those:

  • Fixes for MPE and other profiling tools [thanks to suggestions from Anthony Chan]
  • Fixes for finalization issue with dynamic process management
  • Fixing the error check for buffer aliasing in MPI_Reduce [thanks to suggestions from Dr. Rajeev Thakur]
  • Fix Totalview integration for RHEL5
  • Update simplemake to handle build timestamp issues

As always, MVAPICH2 can be obtained from the OSU Network-Based Computing Laboratory page here.  If you prefer to build it alongside your favorite RDMA interconnect, it will also be available as a part of the OFED 1.5.1 tree.  For more info, including relevant performance figures, check out the MVAPICH2 release notes here.
