Russian Energy Company to Acquire Petascale Super

The Russian news agency CNews reports that Gazprom, the world`s largest gas supplier, plans to acquire a petascale supercomputer for seismic data processing and reservoir simulation. According to, only 10 HPC systems of this magnitude are deployed in the world today.

While the final purchase decision has not been made yet, Russian supercomputer vendors T-Platforms and Russia`s Federal Nuclear Center (Sarov) are reportedly vying for the business. HP and IBM are also rumored to be in the running.

Russia currently has 12 systems on the Top500, including Moscow State University, which comes at #13 on the current list with 674 Teraflops of performance on the LINPACK benchmark. Read the Full Story.
