GCS will host a special session on its Smart Scale strategy at ISC 2018.
Prof. Michael Resch will provide insight into the current status and development of Germany’s Smart Scale initiative and of Germany’s position in the field of HPC from an international prospective. The talk takes place Tuesday, June 26 at 12:30pm in room Panorama 2 at the Frankfurt Messe.
In June 2017, the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) announced its “Smart Scale” strategy, setting the stage for the next decade of funding for Tier-0 German supercomputing at the three national supercomputing centres:
- High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS)
- Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC)
- Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ)
Smart Scale encompasses more than just Exascale hardware – it is a comprehensive approach to provide hardware, software, and know-how for our HPC users. The BMBF and the state ministries of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, and North-Rhein Westphalia will provide dedicated funding for the next ten years in order to both expand the supercomputing technologies provided by the three GCS centers as well as to develop intelligent, integrated solutions encompassing hardware, software, and user support technologies.
ISC 2018 takes place June 24-28 in Frankfurt, Germany.
