In this video from the IBM Think conference, Dr. Dario Gil presents: Access the Future Today with Quantum Computing.
Quantum computing takes advantage of the laws of quantum mechanics found in nature and represents a fundamental change from classical information processing. For two years now, IBM has enabled more than 100,000 people around the globe to access quantum computers for learning, research, and tackling new problems. While still early, we believe it’s just a matter of time until we start using these devices to solve certain problems better than we can today. IBM’s Dario Gil will discuss this radically different approach to computing built on the laws of quantum mechanics and how the roadmap for mainstream adoption of this new technology is being forged today by IBM in collaboration with a global community across business, academia and research.
Dr. Dario Gil is the Chief Operating Officer of IBM Research, a global organization with over 3,000 researchers across 13 laboratories and 21 locations devoted to advancing the frontiers of information technology. As COO, Dr. Gil is responsible for guiding the strategic agenda of IBM Research, defining IBM’s annual Global Technology Outlook, driving operations and financial plan execution, and establishing partnerships with companies and universities worldwide. As the Vice President of AI and Quantum Computing, Dr. Gil is also responsible for IBM’s global research efforts in artificial intelligence and for IBM’s quantum computing program. He co-chairs the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab along with Professor Anantha Chandrakasan, Dean of the MIT School of Engineering. Dr. Gil’s research results have appeared in over 20 international journals and conferences and he is the author of numerous patents. Dr. Gil is an elected member of the IBM Academy of Technology.
Ben Boeser is head of R&D North America, Daimler, Mercedes-Benz. Ben is leading the Open Innovation Group at Mercedes-Benz R&D North America. His group is embedded in R&D with the mission to accelerate innovation. The group also maintains active relationships with the VC and incubator community to engage in new C-level technology partnerships aligned with Daimlers R&D needs. Additionally, Open Innovation benchmarks new chip vendors, builds series production software in their early-stage software team, builds out a new AI/big data solution for battery data and incubates new services like mobile charging with Smart Lab.
