We seek qualified applicants for the position of Research Computing (RC) Network and Data Specialist to be responsible for day-to-day operations, maintenance and hardware support for all networking and file-systems serving RC systems. Systems include Linux-based clusters, departmental servers, and workstations under the control of RC. Network types include Ethernet, Infiniband, and Fibre Channel. File-systems utilize NFS, SMB/CIFS, and Lustre.

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Hardware installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of networking and file-systems in: RC’s Linux based clusters, RC group desktops and all other RC file-servers and networking hardware.
  • Monitoring RC networks and file-systems for correct performance and effective use.
  • Work with W&M/VIMS researchers to troubleshoot use of RC systems related to data use/ingestion and transfer speeds.
  • Document procedures involved in the above tasks.
