NVIDIA in Partnership to Build Taiwan’s 1st HPC System for Medical Research

NVIDIA and Taiwan-based Asustek Computer have announced a partnership with Taiwan’s National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) to develop Taiwan’s first AI biomedical research supercomputer.

According to an article in Digitimes Asia, NHRI will provide health research data while Asustek and NVIDIA will deliver AI cloud technology and high-performance computing servers.

Digitimes Asia reported that Asustek chairman Jonney Shih said the alliance will build Taiwan’s first supercomputer for biomedical research by tapping into NVIDIA’s AI supercomputer technology, AI models and analytic computing applications, as well as NHRI’s research, Asustek’s AI HPC cloud platform, and Taiwan Web Service (TWS)’s maintenance counseling services.

Shih said multiomics analysis, medical imagery identification, and medicine/vaccine development software will also be used to boost the efficiency of NHRI’s AI research. “Besides developing HPC solutions for precision health, medical research, and vaccine development, Asustek will also work with NHRI to speed up the development of AI applications in the Taiwan biomedical industry by focusing on big data for healthcare and biomedical AI models, the company said,” Digitimes Asia reported.

Since it became a software provider of Taiwania 2 supercomputer in 2018, Asustek has assigned AI cloud engineers to research and development and integration of system software, the company said. Taiwania 2 is ranked 54th on the latest Top500 list of the world’s most powerful supercomputers and 34th on the Green500.
