In this interview with high performance storage enthusiast Ulrich Plechschmidt, worldwide product marketing HPC Storage at HPE, he updates us developments and milestones for the company’s storage product line. Included is the news that the same storage technology used in Frontier—the world’s no. 1 supercomputer on the latest TOP500 list — is now available for any size data center.
As “Ulie” explains here, Frontier, an HPE Cray EX system, has an I/O subsystem with a storage layer of compute-node local storage devices and a center-wide file system based on the Scalable Storage Unit of the Cray ClusterStor E1000 storage system.
Plechschmidt also notes that this year marks the 11th anniversary of ClusterStor, which was launched at the ISC conference in 2011, adding that in the intervening years, ClusterStor performance has improved by 3,300 percent.
