Update on the AMAX 07.25.2008
Remember the AMAX system I posted about several weeks ago? That story heralded the system as “one of the world’s 200 fastest supercomputers,” but I couldn’t find any real information on it and it wasn’t on The List.
I had a few emails with James Huang at AMAX, and he did tell me that the system in question is a real system (not a design or an internal machine) deployed “in a large
data center in the West Coast, for a leader in the digital media industry.”
When I pressed him for more details — processor type and count, how the machine is configured, and so on — he let me know that the terms of the NDA he has with the customer don’t allow those details to be shared. So, that’s that.
