In this video, Rich Brueckner reports from the Great Wall in China in preparation for the GTC Asia Conference 2011. Over 1500 registered attendees are expected for the two-day event, which kicks off in Beijing on Dec. 14, 2011.
More that 5500 miles long, the Great Wall of China is a series of stone and earthen fortifications in northern China, built originally to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire against intrusions by various nomadic groups. Several walls have been built since the 5th century BC that are referred to collectively as the Great Wall, which has been rebuilt and maintained from the 5th century BC through the 16th century. One of the most famous is the wall built between 220–206 BC by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang. Little of that wall remains; the majority of the existing wall was built during the Ming Dynasty.
See those small holes in the wall on the right? They are only on the Mongolian side and were designed for shooting the enemy up close at the base of the wall.
If there is anything longer than the Great Wall of China, it would be the process I had to go through to hack around the Great Firewall of China and post this video.
That’s it for now from the Red Hat in Red China. Stay tuned for more videos.
