The MHPC program in Italy has announced their Call for Masters of High Performance Computing. The Master in High Performance Computing (MHPC) is an innovative degree program that prepares students for exciting careers in the fast-growing field of HPC. Set in the stimulating research environment of its co-organizer institutions, SISSA and ICTP, the program combines lectures with hands-on and applied projects to prepare future HPC specialists for academia and industry.

MHPC coursework is driven by challenging scientific and technical problems that require an HPC approach. Lectures are provided by SISSA and ICTP staff and highly recognized international experts. Both institutes have long histories and experience in developing and applying scientific and research computation models. Students who successfully complete the program will be able to address problems requiring advanced computational techniques in multiple domains, and communicate HPC technological issues in all scientific and industrial environments.

SISSA and ICTP host one of the largest HPC facilities in Italy, and it will be available to MHPC students. As an innovative degree program, MHPC coursework is driven by challenging scientific and technical problems that require an HPC approach.

The program features a strict connection with industry, both local and worldwide. The courses are delivered by an international faculty of renowned experts in HPC, both from academia and companies, such as Intel and NVIDIA. In fact, some of the Master’s lectures come from the industrial world to teach the latest applications of HPC technologies.

The master lasts 12 months and is founded on three pillars:

  • Advanced and parallel programming, software engineering, numerical analysis, data analytics, computing hardware, and cluster administration.
  • Fundamental algorithms and strategies common to many scientific HPC applications.
  • Student-developed, practical HPC projects created in close cooperation with leading scientific groups and in a stimulating industrial environment.

Students involved in the program will follow MHPC courses and then take a thesis in one of the Italian institutes that adhere to the HPC-TRES program, with all the expenses covered by the scholarship (fee + monthly salary).

Background Requirements:

  • Programming
  • A competence in at least one of the following languages: C, C++, FORTRAN or PYTHON
  • Master level of a scientific degree
  • No prior HPC knowledge is assumed
  • Enthusiasm is a must

Applications are due July 7, 2017

  1. That’s great, but I just have a bachelor degree in electronics and I hope start my master program in few weeks.
Is there any chance for people like me ? Hehehe
or other kind of opportunities like this one to get into the HPC field?
