Brock Palen started in research computing in 2004 and has experience in Linux dating to 2002. At ARC-TS, he is the Director, responsible for implementing the overall strategy of research computing infrastructure. He also represents the University to the NSF Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) as the Campus Champion. Brock’s primary interests are in large scale infrastructure management, user and general public education and outreach, which he helps contribute to as one half of the podcast Research Computing and Engineering. He holds a degree in Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences from the University of Michigan, where he was a member of the 2003 Michigan Solar Car Team. He is also a member of the Great Lakes section of the American Nuclear Society, ACM SIG HPC, SIG HPC Education, and lifetime member of National Eagle Scout Association (NESA). He also hosts the popular RCE-Podcast with a focus on High Performance Computing.
