Ciena Bolsters Janet Network in the U.K. for Education and Research

Jisc in the UK is deploying Ciena’s Packet Networking platforms to enhance its Janet Network and provide high-speed connectivity across the UK. “Ciena’s platforms help us provide the fast, highly-resilient and scalable connectivity that gives our members the best research and collaboration experience possible.”

Janet Network upgrades to 400Gbit/s for Global Research

JISC in the UK is upgrading its Janet Network to world-leading 400Gbit/s connectivity, making it one of the most digitally-advanced national research and education networks globally in terms of scale, automation and network intelligence. “Our vision is for the UK to be at the forefront of scientific research,” said Jeremy Sharp, network infrastructure director for Jisc. “To make that happen, we must have a highly robust network powered with industry-leading technology that can scale to support bandwidth-intensive applications like genome editing and the Square Kilometre Array.

Géant Expands Europe’s National Research and Education Network

Géant, Europe’s collaboration on e-infrastructure and services for research and education, and operator of the network that interconnects Europe’s National Research and Education Networks (NRENs), has extended its 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) network into data centers.

Rolls-Royce Joins JISC Industrial Supercomputing Initiative

Today JISC in the U.K. announced that Rolls-Royce is the first company to join its industrial supercomputing initiative. Designed to break down barriers between industry and academia, JISC will provide Rolls-Royce with easy access to supercomputing equipment at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) HPC Midlands.
