Combining Big Data and HPC in a GRIDScalar Environment at BASF

Dr. Stephan Schenk from BASF gave this talk at the DDN User Group. “The talk will give an overview of recent activities in Digitalization of BASF’s Research & Development. It will focus in particular on how Big Data and HPC workflows can be combined and complement each other. Technical aspects as well as applications are discussed.”

DDN Leads HPC Storage Market and IO500 List

Today DDN announced it has captured the number-one spot in the IO500 10-node benchmark, announced today by the Virtual Institute for IO at ISC in Frankfurt, Germany. In addition to the top spot, DDN ranked in three of the top five system results. DDN was also a part of a notable submission working with Google to introduce the first IO500 submission run in public cloud with EXAScaler. Additionally, DDN was recognized this week as the leading storage supplier to HPC in Intersect360’s HPC User Site Census.

DDN Powers High Performance Data Storage Fabric at University of Queensland

“The University’s researchers are making landmark discoveries in fields spanning human heritable disease, cancer, agriculture and biofuels manufacture – and they depend on our IT team to provide them with the fastest, most efficient data storage and compute systems to support their data-heavy work,” said Professor David Abramson, University of Queensland Research Computing Center director. “Our IBM, SGI (DMF) and DDN-based data fabric allows us to deliver ultra-fast multi-site data access without requiring any extra intervention from researchers and helps us to ensure our scientists can focus their time on potentially life-saving discoveries.”

Consolidating Storage for Scientific Computing

In this special guest feature from Scientific Computing World, Shailesh M Shenoy from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York discusses the challenges faced by large medical research organizations in the face of ever-growing volumes of data. “In short, our challenge was that we needed the ability to collaborate within the institution and with colleagues at other institutes – we needed to maintain that fluid conversation that involves data, not just the hypotheses and methods.”

DDN Rolls Out GRIDScalar GS14K High-Performance NAS

Today DDN introduced the “industry’s fastest and most flexible” scale-out network attached storage (NAS) solution. As the newest product in the DDN GRIDScaler product family, the GS14K, delivers the speed and scale that data intensive environments need to accelerate analytics, increase reliability and integrate into modern workflows such as Hadoop, OpenStack and scale-out NAS environments. The GS14K is offered as an All Flash Array or Hybrid Storage platform, delivering the advantages of NAS data access with the high performance benefits of parallel files systems to support today’s modern, big data demands in an economical, easy to manage appliance.

DDN Powers Fight Against Ebola at VBI

Today DDN announced that the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute is using the company’s GRIScaler storage solutions to perform rapid, accurate Ebola outbreak modeling for the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency.
