PBS Works will Power New Supercomputer at BASF

Over at the Altair Blog, Jochen Krebs writes that the new HPC cluster at BASF will run PBS Works workload management software. “What does it take to go from months to mere days in gaining results when conducting research? Supercomputing now plays a vital role in the advancement of systems efficiency across industries. On March 17th, BASF and HPE announced in a press release that BASF has chosen HPE to build a new supercomputer for chemical research projects. HPE’s Apollo System supercomputer will help BASF to reduce computer simulation and modeling times from months to days and will drive the digitalization of BASF’s worldwide research activities.”

Oracle Cloud to add PBS Works for Technical Computing

Today Altair announced plans to build and offer HPC solutions on the Oracle Cloud Platform. This follows Oracle’s decision to name Altair PBS Works as its preferred workload management solution for Oracle Cloud customers. “This move signals a big shift in strategy for Oracle, a company that abandoned the HPC market after it acquired Sun Microsystems in 2010.”

Altair Moves Forward with Open Source PBS Pro and PBS Cloud at SC16

After that, Jeremie Bourdoncle announces the new Altair PBS Cloud. “Altair is excited to announce the upcoming availability of Altair PBS Cloud, its latest appliance solution to further cloud computing for organizations. Altair PBS Cloud is the solution to build and run high-performance computing (HPC) appliances for both public clouds, private clouds, and bare-metal infrastructure. Altair will release Altair PBS Cloud in the first quarter of 2017 following conclusion of a private preview.”

PBS Pro from Altair Goes Open Source at ISC 2016

Open source licensing for Altair’s market-leading HPC workload manager, PBS Professional, is now available. PBS Pro development communities are now forming and the full-core open source version of PBS Pro can be downloaded at www.pbspro.org. “Our intent is to continuously push the boundaries of HPC to pursue exascale computing through active participation with the HPC community,” says James R. Altair’s PBS Pro to Manage Workload for New NCAR Supercomputer

“Supercomputing is vital to NCAR’s research and this new system will be an important tool for researchers across the United States,” said Anke Kamrath, director of operations and services at NCAR’s Computational and Information Systems Laboratory. “It will enable enhanced understanding of weather and other natural processes, helping to make society more resilient.”

Altair to Open Source PBS Professional HPC Technology in 2016

Altair has announced that it will provide an open source licensing option of PBS Professional® (PBS Pro). PBS Pro will become available under two different licensing options for commercial installations and as an Open Source Initiative compliant version. Altair will work closely with Intel and the Linux Foundation’s OpenHPC Collaborative Project to integrate the open source version of PBS Pro.
