Student Teams Encouraged to Join the 3rd APAC HPC-AI Competition

Student teams are encouraged to apply for the 2020 APAC HPC-AI Competition. Continuing the success of the previous competitions, student teams will square off against international teams to produce solutions and applications in the High-Performance Computing and Artificial Intelligence domains. “We hope that the HPC-AI training established among our young aspiring programmers can help us tackle global threats such as COVID-19 and accelerate an improved response to future pandemics.”

NVIDIA Tops MLPerf AI Inference Benchmarks

Today NVIDIA posted the fastest results on new benchmarks measuring the performance of AI inference workloads in data centers and at the edge — building on the company’s equally strong position in recent benchmarks measuring AI training. “NVIDIA topped all five benchmarks for both data center-focused scenarios (server and offline), with Turing GPUs providing the highest performance per processor among commercially available entries.”

Designing Convergent HPC and Big Data Software Stacks: An Overview of the HiBD Project

DK Panda from Ohio State University gave this talk at the 2019 Stanford HPC Conference. “This talk will provide an overview of challenges in designing convergent HPC and BigData software stacks on modern HPC clusters. An overview of RDMA-based designs for Hadoop (HDFS, MapReduce, RPC and HBase), Spark, Memcached, Swift, and Kafka using native RDMA support for InfiniBand and RoCE will be presented. Enhanced designs for these components to exploit HPC scheduler (SLURM), parallel file systems (Lustre) and NVM-based in-memory technology will also be presented. Benefits of these designs on various cluster configurations using the publicly available RDMA-enabled packages from the OSU HiBD project will be shown.”

The UK’s fastest academic supercomputer, based at the University of Cambridge, will be made available to artificial intelligence (AI) technology companies from across the UK, in support of the government’s industrial strategy. “Artificial Intelligence is at the centre of our plans to make the UK the best place in the world to start and grow a digital business.”
