Video: D‑Wave Rolls Out Leap, A Quantum Application Development Environment

Today D-Wave Systems announced the immediate availability of free, real-time access to the D‑Wave Leap Quantum Application Environment. Leap is the first cloud-based QAE providing real-time access to a live quantum computer. “The next frontier of quantum computing is quantum application development. While we continue to advance our industry-leading quantum technology, our goal with Leap is to ignite a new generation of developers who will explore, experiment, and ultimately build our quantum application future.”

D-Wave Demonstrates First Large-Scale Quantum Simulation of Topological State of Matter

Today D-Wave Systems published a milestone study demonstrating a topological phase transition using its 2048-qubit annealing quantum computer. This complex quantum simulation of materials is a major step toward reducing the need for time-consuming and expensive physical research and development.

D-Wave Launches Quadrant Business Unit for Machine Learning

Today D-Wave Systems launch its new Quadrant business unit, formed to provide machine learning services that make state-of-the-art deep learning accessible to companies across a wide range of industries and application areas. Quadrant’s algorithms enable accurate discriminative learning (predicting outputs from inputs) using less data by constructing generative models which jointly model both inputs and outputs. “Quadrant is a natural extension of the scientific and technological advances from D-Wave as we continue to explore new applications for our quantum systems.”

Quantum Computing – Timing is Everything

Steve Reinhardt from D-Wave Systems gave this talk at the HPC User Forum. “Despite the incredible power of today’s supercomputers, there are many complex computing problems that can’t be addressed by conventional systems. While we are only at the beginning of this journey, quantum computing has the potential to help solve some of the most complex technical, scientific, national defense, and commercial problems that organizations face. We expect that quantum computing will lead to breakthroughs in science, engineering, modeling and simulation, healthcare, financial analysis, optimization, logistics, and national defense applications.”

SXSW Podcast: Quantum Computing – Science Fiction to Science Fact

In this podcast from from SXSW 2018, Antia Lamas-Linares from TACC moderates a panel discussion on quantum computing. “Imagine a new kind of computer that can quickly solve problems that would stump even the world’s most powerful supercomputers. Quantum computers are fundamentally different. They can store information as not only just ones and zeros, but in all the shades of gray in-between. Several companies and government agencies are investing billions of dollars in the field of quantum information. But what will quantum computers be used for?”

D-Wave Completes Prototype of Next-Gen Quantum Processor

Today D-Wave Systems announced that the company has completed fabrication and testing of a working prototype next-generation processor, and the installation of a D-Wave 2000Q system for a customer. The prototype processor uses an advanced new architecture that will be the basis for D-Wave’s next-generation quantum processor. The D-Wave 2000Q system, the fourth generation of commercial products delivered by D-Wave, was installed at the Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab run by Google, NASA, and Universities Space Research Association.

Supercomputing Frontiers Europe Announces Keynote Speakers

The Supercomputing Frontiers conference has announced it Full Agenda and Keynote Speakers. The event takes place March 12-15 in Warsaw, Poland. “Supercomputing Frontiers is an annual international conference that provides a platform for thought leaders from both academia and industry to interact and discuss visionary ideas, important visionary trends and substantial innovations in supercomputing.”

Radio Free HPC Looks at NVIDIA’s Efforts to Ban Consumer GPUs in the Datacenter

In this podcast, the Radio Free HPC team looks at NVIDIA’s new EULA GeForce Software user license, which prohibits the use of consumer GPUs in the datacenter. We are not looking to beat up on anyone, but our focus is on what these kind of limitations might mean for the industry.
“When we purchase hardware, aren’t we free to use it any way we please? And why do BitCoin miners get a pass during a worldwide GPU shortage?”

Video: D-Wave Systems Seminar on Quantum Computing from SC17

In this video from SC17 in Denver, Bo Ewald from D-Wave Systems hosts a Quantum Computing Seminar. “We will discuss quantum computing, the D-Wave 2000Q system and software, the growing software ecosystem, an overview of some user projects, and how quantum computing can be applied to problems in optimization, machine learning, cyber security, and sampling.”

Innovate UK Award to Confirm Business Case for Quantum-enhanced Optimization Algorithms

Today D-Wave Systems announced its involvement in a grant-funded UK project to improve logistics and planning operations using quantum computing algorithms. “Advancing AI planning techniques could significantly improve operational efficiency across major industries, from law enforcement to transportation and beyond,” said Robert “Bo” Ewald, president of D-Wave International. “Advancing real-world applications for quantum computing takes dedicated collaboration from scientists and experts in a wide variety of fields. This project is an example of that work and will hopefully lead to faster, better solutions for critical problems.”
