New Blueprint lays out Strategic Research Agenda for HPC in Europe

The European ETP4HPC initiative has published a blueprint for the new Strategic Research Agenda for High Performance Computing. “This blueprint sketches the big picture of the major trends in the deployment of HPC and HPDA methods and systems, driven by the economic and societal needs of Europe, taking into account the changes expected in the underlying technologies and the overall architecture of the expanding underlying HPC infrastructure.”

PRACEdays16 Wraps Up in Prague

PRACEdays16 was held May 10-12 in Prague, Czech Republic. More than 220 participants joined the plenary and parallel sessions for keynote presentations and discussions about and between science, industry and HPC. “PRACEdays16 has been a success throughout with more participants, more interactions, and more awards. We clearly see the need for this conference and the entire European HPC Summit Week to be developed into the signature event for HPC in science and industry in Europe,” said Alison Kennedy Chair of the PRACE Board of Directors.

Registration is now open for PRACEdays16. As one of Europe’s most important conferences on HPC in science and industry, PRACEdays16 will be held from May 10-12 in Prague, Czech Republic.

European Commission Steps Up Funding of HPC

In this special guest feature, Tom Wilkie from Scientific Computing World reports that the European Commission is funding research projects and centers of excellence as part of its strategy to coordinate European HPC efforts. In October, the EC made a series of announcements on how it is going to invest some of the €700 million allocated to its Public-Private Partnership on high performance computing.

BSC and CEA to Collaborate on HPC Innovation

Today the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) announced plans to collaborate on HPC research and technology innovation. Both organizations have signed an agreement to help promoting “a globally competitive HPC value chain and flagship industry”, echoing the European Union strategy in the domain.
