Recent Topics in the IBTA… and a Look Ahead

Bill Magro from IBTA gave this talk at the OpenFabrics Workshop. “This talk discusses some recent activities in the InfiniBand Trade Association including recent specification updates. It also provides a glimpse into the future for the IBTA.” Bill Magro is an Intel Fellow and Intel’s Chief Technologist for HPC software. In this role, he serves as the technical lead and strategist for Intel’s high-performance computing software and provides HPC software requirements for Intel product roadmaps.”

OFA Workshop in Austin to Put Spotlight on InfiniBand and RoCE

“The OpenFabrics Alliance (OFA) workshop is an annual event devoted to advancing the state of the art in networking. The workshop is known for showcasing a broad range of topics all related to network technology and deployment through an interactive, community-driven event. The comprehensive event includes a rich program made up of more than 50 sessions covering a variety of critical networking topics, which range from current deployments of RDMA to new and advanced network technologies.”

New InfiniBand Architecture Specifications Extend Virtualization Support

“As performance demands continue to evolve in both HPC and enterprise cloud applications, the IBTA saw an increasing need for new enhancements to InfiniBand’s network capabilities, support features and overall interoperability,” said Bill Magro, co-chair of the IBTA Technical Working Group. “Our two new InfiniBand Architecture Specification updates satisfy these demands by delivering interoperability and testing upgrades for EDR and FDR, flexible management capabilities for optimal low-latency and low-power functionality and virtualization support for better network scalability.”

OrionX Reports Position InfiniBand as the Leading HPI Technology and Mellanox the Leading Vendor

“For now, InfiniBand and its vendor community, notably Mellanox appear to have the upper hand from a performance and market presence perspective, but with Intel entering the HPI market, and new server architectures based on ARM and Power making a new claim on high performance servers, it is clear that a new industry phase is beginning. A healthy war chest combined with a well-executed strategy can certainly influence a successful outcome.”

IBTA Plugfest Expands EDR InfiniBand & RoCE Ecosystem

IBTA’s world-class compliance and interoperability program ensures the dependability of the evolving InfiniBand specification, which in turn broadens industry adoption and user confidence,” said Rupert Dance, co-chair of the IBTA Compliance and Interoperability Working Group (CIWG). “With the continued support of our members and partners, the IBTA is able to offer the industry invaluable resources to help guide critical decision making during deployment of InfiniBand or RoCE solutions.”

Video: InfiniBand Trade Association Update

Bill Lee presented this talk at the Mellanox booth at SC15. “The IBTA is responsible for compliance and interoperability testing of commercial products and has successfully added hundreds of products to its Integrators’ List. The IBTA unites the industry through IBTA-sponsored technical events and resources, and actively promotes InfiniBand from a vendor-neutral perspective through online communications, marketing and public relations engagements.”

IBTA Publishes RoCE Interoperability List from Plugfest

Today the InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) announced the completion of the first Plugfest for RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) solutions and the publication of the RoCE Interoperability List on the IBTA website. Fifteen member companies participated, bringing their RoCE adapters, cables and switches for testing to the event. Products that successfully passed the testing have been added to the RoCE Interoperability List.

IBTA Launches the RoCE Initiative

Today the InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) announced the launch of the RoCE Initiative to further the advancement of RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) technology and promote RoCE awareness.

Slidecast: New IBTA Volume 1 Specification Release

In this slidecast, Bill Lee and Rupert Dance from the InfiniBand Trade Association describe the new IBTA Volume 1 Specification Release. “The new release defines new capabilities that will enable computer systems to keep up with the requirements for increased scalability and bandwidth, along with high computing efficiency and high availability for both high performance computing and commercial enterprise data centers.”

Slidecast: IBTA Releases Updated Specification for RoCEv2

“Major cloud providers and Web 2.0 companies have converged on RoCE to solve the challenges of running compute intensive applications and processing massive amounts of data in hyperscale networking environments,” said Barry Barnett, co-chair of the InfiniBand Trade Association. “The RoCEv2 standard enables multi-vendor, interoperable solutions delivering RDMA that spans hyperscale network environments. This in turn paves the way for broader adoption within enterprise environments in order to improve infrastructure efficiency and lower total cost of ownership.”
