Call for Contributions: PRACEdays17 in Barcelona

PRACEdays17 has issued its Call for Contributions. The event takes place May 15-17 in Barcelona. “PRACE would like to receive contributions for presentations of excellent scientific merit from scientists and researchers from academia and industry. Past and present users of PRACE resources are highly encouraged to send in a contribution based on their PRACE-supported projects.”

Women in HPC Celebration comes to Salt Lake City on Nov. 15

The Women in HPC network is hosting a meetup celebration at SC16. The event will take place at Nov. 15 at 7:30pm – 9:00pm at Caffé Molise in Salt Lake City. “Join us to celebrate the growing community of women in the supercomputing community and the work of WHPC. This special networking evening will include drinks and an appetizer buffet. Hosted by EPCC in collaboration with Intel, Compute Canada and McMahon Consulting, the event is a great opportunity to celebrate the work done by WHPC and meet members, founders, advocates and supporters.”

Addressing Diversity at EuroMPI

“Improving diversity at conferences should be high up on the agenda for everyone. It is generally accepted that diversity in the workforce is a good thing: improving the representation of women in teams improves the overall performance of the teams, seeing women in positions that were traditionally male dominated helps to overcome the negative stereotypes that women are not suited to these roles as well as providing visible role models for future generations.”

Women in HPC Keynote: Evidence-based Advice on Diversifying the HPC Community

“This workshop aims to recognize and discuss the challenges faced by women, one of many underrepresented groups that exist in HPC, as well as opportunities for broadening participation in HPC fields and activities to encourage women to enter the field with consideration of differing legislation affecting hiring and employment practices among the different countries. A keynote address and panel discussion will focus on strategies implemented by employers to diversify the HPC workforce and discuss the efficacy of the approaches.”

Interview: Women in HPC to Host Special Events at ISC 2016

This week, the Women in HPC organization announced a series of special events coming up at ISC 2016. To learn more, we caught up with WHPC Director Dr. Toni Collis from EPCC at the University of Edinburgh. “Most people don’t notice how un-diverse HPC really is. But when you start counting the number of women in the room, at the table, or in the C-suite, it is quite surprising.”

EuroMPI Conference Partners with Women in HPC to Bolster Diversity

ISC 2016 Keynote to Showcase Women’s Excellence in Computational Science

Today the ISC 2016 conference announced that their Tuesday keynote session will highlight contributions from female researchers and scientists in advancing the field of computational science. “This year, Dr. Jacqueline H. Chen, a distinguished member of technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories, has been invited to keynote on Tuesday, June 21, on the topic of advancing the science of turbulent combustion using petascale and exascale simulations.”
