Today the PASC18 conference announced that Marina Becoulet from CEA will be one of its keynote speakers. “The main goal of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project is the demonstration of the feasibility of future clean energy sources based on nuclear fusion in magnetically confined plasma. In the era of ITER construction, fusion plasma theory and modeling provide not only a deep understanding of a specific phenomenon, but moreover, modeling-based design is critical for ensuring active plasma control.”
Preliminary Agenda Posted for March HPC User Forum in France
The HPC User Forum has posted their Preliminary Agenda for their upcoming meeting in France. Free to attend, the event takes place March 6-7 near Paris at the Teratec campus in Bruyères-le-Châtel. “We have developed an exciting agenda with prominent speakers who will discuss the HPC strategies for Europe, Japan and the USA,” said Earl Joseph, CEO of Hyperion Research. “We will also have talks on new HPC technologies, applications and markets; and the proliferation of HPC in industrial and commercial environments.”

The TERATEC Forum has posted their agenda for their 11th annual meeting. The event takes place June 28-29 in Palaiseau, France. “TERATEC brings together top international experts in high performance numerical design, simulation and Big Data, making it the major event in France and in Europe in this domain.”
CCRT in France Acquires 1.4 Petaflop “Cobalt” Supercomputer from Bull
Today Atos announced that the French CEA and its industrial partners at the Centre for Computing Research and Technology, CCRT, have invested in a new 1.4 petaflop Bull supercomputer. “Three times more powerful than the current computer at CCRT, the new system will be installed in the CEA’s Very Large Computing Centre in Bruyères-le-Châtel, France, mid-2016 to cover expanding industrial needs. Named COBALT, the new Intel Xeon-based supercomputer will be powered by over 32,000 compute cores and storage capacity of 2.5 Petabytes with a throughput of 60 GB/s.”
Seagate to Power CEA Supercomputing Data Management Infrastructure
Today Seagate announced that the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) has selected the Seagate ClusterStor L300 for its GS1K HPC storage needs. GS1K is the next-generation supercomputing data management infrastructure for CEA’s Military Applications Division.
Survey Shows DDN as HPC Storage Market Leader
Today DDN announced that it fortified its position as the HPC storage market leader during 2015. According to a recently published Intersect360 Research HPC User Site Census report, DDN has largest share of installed systems at surveyed HPC sites.
ESI Opens New European HPC Center
Today the French ESI Group announced the opening of its new European HPC Center. The datacenter is now based on the Teratec Campus, an ideal location to launch collaborative High-Performance Computing projects as it is in the vicinity of Europe’s biggest HPC center: the CEA’s Très Grand Centre de Calcul. The new datacenter will effectively act as ESI’s POD (Point of Delivery), serving all ESI offices across Europe as a platform for ESI’s new software development and engineering services alike. ESI teamed up with Legrand, the global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructures to meet the technical challenges surrounding this project.
