Slidecast: The Sad State of Affairs in HPC Storage (But there is light at the end of the tunnel)

In this video, Robert Murphy from Panasas describes the current state of the HPC storage market and how Panasas is stepping up with high performance products that deliver economical performance without risk. “According to a recent study published by Hyperion Research, total cost of ownership (TCO) now rivals performance as a top criterion for purchasing HPC storage systems. Newly retooled with COTS hardware and a unique architecture, Panasas delivers surprising performance at a lower TCO than competitive solutions.”

New Study Exposes Hidden Costs of HPC Storage including Downtime and Labor Costs

Total cost of ownership (TCO) now rivals performance as a top criterion for purchasing HPC storage systems, according to a new study published by Hyperion Research. “While performance still ranked first (57%), TCO tied with purchase price at 37% as the second most important consideration cited by users. This points to an important shift, as HPC storage buyers have historically given less credence to ongoing operating costs, particularly millions of dollars lost due to downtime. Almost half of the surveyed respondents experience storage system failures once a month or more, with some outages leading to downtimes that can last as long as a week. A single day of downtime costs can range from $100,000 to more than $1 million.”

Is Your Storage Infrastructure Ready for the Coming AI Wave?

In this new whitepaper from our friends over at Panasas, we take a look at whether your storage infrastructure is ready for the robust requirements in support of AI workloads. AI promises to not only create entirely new industries, but it will also fundamentally change the way organizations large and small conduct business. IT planners need to start revising their storage infrastructure now to prepare the organization for the coming AI wave.

Adding Ultra Low Latency to PanFS for AI and HPC

Curtis Anderson from Panasas gave this talk at SC19. “Panasas PanFS, the operating environment for the Panasas ActiveStor architecture, delivers superior performance for today’s demanding workloads. A scale-out object back-end supports limitless scaling, while optimal data placement and an internally balanced architecture boost efficiency. All with frustration-free deployment, operation, and maintenance.”

Panasas ActiveStor Solution: Architectural Overview

Panasas has released this timely new white paper “Panasas ActiveStor Solution: Architectural Overview.” The Panasas ActiveStor architecture running the PanFS storage operating system breaks through the performance constraints of other parallel file systems. The comprehensive and tightly integrated solution enables high-performance direct parallel access to petabytes of data while avoiding the stability problems inherent in legacy NAS systems as they grow.
