Jülich installs first Cluster Module for DEEP-EST Exascale Project

Researchers at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre have installed the first-ever Cluster Module from MEGWARE as part of the European DEEP-EST project for Exascale computing. The Cluster Module consist of a single rack with 50 Intel Xeon Scalable Processor-based dual-socket nodes with a Mellanox EDR-InfiniBand 100Gbps high-performance cluster fabric. “The DEEP-EST prototype will demonstrate that a Modular Supercomputer is much more flexible than a monolithic one, and matches very diverse application profiles in a cost-effective way.”

ISC 2019 Keynote to focus on Algorithms of Life

Today the ISC 2019 conference announced that their keynote will be delivered by Professor Ivo Sbalzarini, who will speak to an audience of 3500 attendees about the pivotal role high performance computing plays in the field of systems biology. Under the title, The Algorithms of Life – Scientific Computing for Systems Biology, Sbalzarini will discuss how HPC is being used as a tool for scientific investigation and for hypothesis testing, as well as a more fundamental way to think about problems in systems biology.

The event takes place June 16-20 in Frankfurt, Germany. “On June 18, John Shalf, from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will offer his thoughts on how the slowdown and eventual demise of Moore’s Law will affect the prospects for high performance computing in the next decade. On June 19, Thomas Sterling will present his annual retrospective of the most important developments in HPC over the last 12 months.”
ISC 2019 Announces Lineup for Student Cluster Competition

The ISC 2019 conference has announced the teams that will compete in their Student Cluster Competition. The annual event takes place June 16-20 in Hamburg, Germany. “Now in its eighth year, the ISC HPCAI Advisory Council Student Cluster Competition enables international STEM teams to take part in a real-time contest focused on advancing STEM disciplines and HPC skills development. To take home top honors, twelve teams will have the opportunity to showcase systems of their own design, adhering to strict power constraints and achieve the highest performance across a series of standard HPC benchmarks and applications.”

It’s a great way for HPC folks to get to the ISC High Performance conference, which takes place June 16-20 in Frankfurt, Germany. “As an added bonus, Dr. Julian Kunkel, of University of Reading, will mentor the selected grant recipients helping them get the most out of the conference by suggesting relevant program sessions and introducing them to experts in their research field.”
