Computational scientists are invited to apply for the upcoming Argonne Training Program on Extreme-Scale Computing (ATPESC) this Summer. “This program provides intensive hands-on training on the key skills, approaches, and tools to design, implement, and execute computational science and engineering applications on current supercomputers and the HPC systems of the future. As a bridge to that future, this two-week program fills many gaps that exist in the training computational scientists typically receive through formal education or other shorter courses.”
Learn to Code for Parallel HPC with Appentra Parallelware Trainer 1.0

Accelerate Your Applications: CesgaHack returns to Spain in September

The Galicia Supercomputing Center (CESGA) and Appentra Solutions will host the third edition of the hackathon at the Galicia Supercomputing Center, in Santiago de Compostela, from 24th to 28th September 2018. “CESGAHack 3 will help scientists and application developers to answer more scientific question by speeding up their application runtime and also reducing how long they spend coding the improved runtime. Participants get access to the Finis Terrae II supercomputer at CESGA and a team of mentors that are experts in the optimization, parallelization and execution of HPC applications.”
Call for Applications: NCSA GPU Hackathon in September

NCSA is now accepting team applications for the Blue Waters GPU Hackathon. This event will take place September 10-14, 2018 in Illinois. “General-purpose Graphics Processing Units (GPGPUs) potentially offer exceptionally high memory bandwidth and performance for a wide range of applications. A challenge in utilizing such accelerators has been learning how to program them. These hackathons are intended to help overcome this challenge for new GPU programmers and also to help existing GPU programmers to further optimize their applications – a great opportunity for graduate students and postdocs. Any and all GPU programming paradigms are welcome.”

Today Cornell University announced that four new Cornell Virtual Workshop training topics are available at the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) user portal. “The Cornell University Center for Advanced Computing (CAC) is a leader in the development and deployment of Web-based training programs designed to enhance the computational skills of researchers, broaden the participation of underrepresented groups in the sciences and engineering, and accelerate the adoption of new and emerging technologies.”
HPC Carpentry Learning Portal Offers an Intro to HPC

The good folks at HPC Carpentry have posted a new set of teaching materials designed to help new users take advantage of high-performance computing systems. No prior computational experience is required – these lessons are ideal for either an in-person workshop or independent study. “HPC Carpentry is not an organization – it is merely a set of publicly available teaching materials designed to make the task of teaching HPC a little easier. We welcome all contributions, in particular adaptations of our Intro to HPC lesson for other schedulers besides SLURM.”

Today the CloudLightning project announced a free open online course on High Performance Computing in the Cloud. “Developed in collaboration with the Irish Centre for Cloud Computing and Commerce (IC4) and Dublin City University, the course provides an advanced graduate-level introduction to using cloud computing for high-performance computing workloads. It will cover a wide range of topics from cloud architecture and infrastructure supporting HPC to the business opportunities that are enabled by HPC in the cloud.”

Applications are now open for the PRACE Summer of HPC 2018. The Summer of HPC is a PRACE outreach and training program that offers summer placements at top HPC centers across Europe to late-stage undergraduates and early-stage postgraduate students. “Consisting of a training week and two months on placement at top HPC centers around Europe, the program offers participants the opportunity to learn and share more about PRACE and HPC, and includes accommodation, a stipend and travel.”
