Video: Lustre Generational Performance Improvements & New Features
Adam Roe from Intel gave this talk at LAD’17 in Paris. “Lustre has had a number of compelling new features added in recent releases; this talk will look at those features in detail and see how well they all work together from both a performance and functionality perspective. Comparing some of the numbers from last year we will see how far the Lustre* filesystem has come in such a short period of time (LAD’16 to LAD’17), comparing the same use cases observing the generational improvements in the technology.”
Video: Lustre File System on ARM
Carlos Thomaz from DDN gave this talk at LAD’17 in Paris. “With the first set of Arm-based HPC servers debuting at SC17 in Denver, the platform is being evaluated for Lustre performance by a number of other organizations including Cray, DDN, and ORNL.”
RAID Inc. Joins OpenSFS to Support the Lustre File System
RAID Incorporated has joined OpenSFS (Open Scalable File Systems, Inc.). OpenSFS is a non-profit organization that supports the vendor-neutral development of Lustre. Since 2010, OpenSFS has utilized working groups, events, and funding initiatives to encourage the growth and stability of the Lustre community, as well as facilitate collaborative benefits of its members, to ensure Lustre remains open, free, and flourishing. “RAID Incorporated undoubtedly brings great value to OpenSFS and will aid in boosting the continued innovation and advancements of the Lustre file system,” said OpenSFS President Sarp Oral.
Experiences in providing secure multi-tenant Lustre access to OpenStack
In this video from the DDN User Group at SC17, Dr. Peter Clapham from Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute presents: Experiences in providing secure multi-tenant Lustre access to OpenStack. “If you need 10,000 cores to perform an extra layer of analysis in an hour, you have to scale a significant cluster to get answers quickly. You need a real solution that can address everything from very small to extremely large data sets.”
Video: ZFS Improvements for Lustre
In this video from LAD’17 in Paris, Adreas Dilger from Intel presents: ZFS Improvements for Lustre. “Lustre is the Parallel file system of choice for High Performance Computing and large file applications. To meet the capacity and throughput requirements of HPC workloads, Lustre has traditionally required adoption of custom proprietary storage products leading to vendor lock-in and reduced innovation. The evolution of software defined high availability platforms like ZFS running on Linux now make it possible to meet the performance requirements of HPC on open industry standard x86 platforms.”
OpenSFS Announces Maintenance Release 2.10.1 for Lustre
OpenSFS today announced the first Long Term Support (LTS) maintenance release of Lustre 2.10.1. “This latest advance, in effect, fulfills a commitment made by Intel last April to align its efforts and support around the community release, including efforts to design and release a maintenance version. This transition enables growth in the adoption and rate of innovation for Lustre.”
